Application Scenarios

Distillation Tower

• Suitable for separating components with a boiling point difference >30℃.

Rectification Tower

• Core advantage: Capable of separating components with a boiling point difference <5℃ (e.g., benzene-toluene system).

Principle and Classification

• There are various types of tower equipment. A distillation tower is a  tower-type gas-liquid contact device for distillation, mainly including two types: tray towers and packed towers.
• The comparison between tray towers and packed towers is a complex issue involving many factors. When selecting the type, factors such as material properties, operating conditions, performance of the tower equipment, as well as manufacturing, installation, operation and maintenance of the tower equipment should be considered.

Principle

• The distillation principle of the distillation tower is to partially vaporize the liquid mixture and utilize the difference in volatility of each component to achieve separation. The tower kettle contains liquid, and gas distills out from the tower top.
• The working principle of the distillation tower is not limited to alcohol purification. The main function of the distillation tower is to separate mixed liquids. It utilizes the principle that different liquids have different volatilities (boiling points) under different conditions (such as different temperatures) to carry out liquid separation, so as to achieve the purification effect.
• Distillation towers are mainly divided into tray towers and thin-film towers. Tray towers are more common, and their structure can be divided into three parts: trays, reboilers, and condensers.
