Product Introduction

The methanol transformation desulfurization tower is a key equipment in the coal chemical industry for removing sulfides from shifted gas. Its main function is to purify gas through absorption and chemical reactions, while recovering sulfur resources to ensure the smooth progress of subsequent processes and reduce environmental pollution.


Basic Requirements

To strengthen the absorption process, improve desulfurization efficiency, and reduce equipment investment and operation costs, the desulfurization tower should meet the following basic requirements:

  1. Large contact area and sufficient contact timebetween gas and liquid.
  2. Strong gas-liquid turbulenceto minimize absorption resistance and achieve high SO₂ absorption efficiency.
  3. Stable operationwith appropriate operational flexibility.
  4. Low pressure dropduring gas flow.
  5. Simple structurefor easy manufacturing, maintenance, and low cost, with a long service life.
  6. Scale and blockage resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance.
  7. Low energy consumptionand no secondary pollution.


Process Flow

  • Gas Inlet: The shifted gas is first separated by a pre-tower gas-liquid separator to remove entrained liquids, then enters the bottom of the desulfurization tower and contacts countercurrently with the desulfurization liquid flowing downward.
  • Desulfurization Reaction: Inside the tower, sulfides in the gas react chemically with the desulfurization liquid and are absorbed, purifying the gas. The purified gas exits from the top of the desulfurization tower, enters a post-tower gas-liquid separator to further remove entrained liquids, and is then sent to subsequent processes.
  • Solution Circulation: The desulfurization liquid (rich liquid) absorbing sulfides flows out from the bottom of the desulfurization tower. Driven by the tower’s internal pressure, it enters the regeneration tank through a flash tank and ejector.In the regeneration tank, the catalyst in the desulfurization liquid is regenerated via air oxidation, and sulfides are converted into sulfur foam for flotation. The regenerated desulfurization liquid (lean liquid) enters the circulation tank and is pumped by a lean liquid pump to the top of the desulfurization tower for recycling.

 


Operation and Maintenance Key Points

  • Solution Composition Control: Regularly analyze the composition of the desulfurization liquid, including total alkalinity, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, sulfides, and by-salts. Adjust the desulfurization liquid formula in a timely manner based on analysis results, and supplement lye and catalysts to ensure stable liquid performance.
  • Liquid Level Control: Strictly control the liquid levels in equipment such as the desulfurization tower, regeneration tank, and circulation tank to prevent accidents such as gas entrainment caused by excessive liquid levels or pump cavitation due to low liquid levels.
  • Temperature Control: Maintain the operating temperature of the desulfurization tower at approximately 30–50°C. Excessive or insufficient temperatures will affect the rate and effectiveness of desulfurization reactions.
  • Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: Regularly inspect components of the desulfurization tower, such as the tower body, packing, trays, gas-liquid distribution devices, and demisters, for wear, corrosion, and blockage. Timely repair or replace components to ensure normal equipment operation.
